W.T.E. was appointed to design and engineer a biomass plant, 18.7 MWe of capacity, in order to obtain public permission to build the plant and to deliver electric and thermal energy.
This project was part of the initiative finalized to convert into an energy plant the Eridania-Sadam sugar mill, installed in Castiglion Fiorentino.
The project included:
- biomass power station with 23 MWth and 7,5 MWe (full electric), fed by wood chips and oil seeds residues, with the possibility to deliver upto 8 MWth in co-generative running,
- reciprocating engine with 11,2 MWe capacity, fed by vegetal oil from sunflower seeds squeezing,
- sunflower seeds squeezing and handling system,
- auxiliary photovoltaic system.
